Artist Residency Open Call

Posted

This opportunity is for a one-month residency for an artist to live and work in a guest flat at St. Mary Newington Almshouse, Surrey Square in South London managed by Southwark Charities.

The residency is part of Tenderground an arts strategy and commissioning programme for the almshouses of Southwark Charities.

Who is it for?

The residency is for artists based outside London who are interested in responding to the context of Almshouses and shared living communities. The artist will be required to integrate themselves as a member of the community - to interact with their neighbours, attend community meetings and/or social events.

We expect the artist to offer a minimum of one public event, workshop or activity whilst in residence for the residents.

We are aware that one month is a short timespan for completing a piece of work and anticipate responses which may include delivery of small interventions or engagement projects alongside artists who would wish to undertake research and development for larger scale, long-term projects.

We welcome the widest variety of responses and are particularly interested in proposals from under-represented artists.

Fees and budget

The residency includes:

  • one bedroom flat (inc. electricity and water) for the duration of the residency.
  • fee of £2,500
  • materials budget of £500
  • Return travel within the UK (up to £300)
